Research Question
Does ammonia used in meat filler to kill bacteria pose detrimental health risks to humans when they ingest meat products?
Thesis Statement
To combat e.coli, meat manufacturers are using ammonia in their meat filler. The FDA has approved the use of ammonia. However, to the everyday person, ammonia has always been associated as a household cleaning product. As a result, experts as well as consumers argue that while using ammonia eliminates e.coli, it poses health risks in humans when they consume the meat product. Ironically, the human body naturally produces and requires ammonia. The conflict arises when a comparison is made as to how much ammonia is safe for consumption. Through our investigation, we plan to research the qualifying amount of ammonia humans can process without causing health risks. We will also investigate the actual amount of ammonia manufacturers’ use in their meat filler products. After investigating both aspects, a comparison of the two investigations will unveil the true affects of ammonia on the human body.
